Springs man shot and killed in Georgia

A suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a Colorado Springs man visiting Atlanta, according to police.

Douglas C. Perry, 62, was shot several times while filling up his rental car at a gas station on July 3 before returning to Hartsfield Airport, said police.

He died from gunshot wounds.

Atlanta police arrested the suspected gunman, James Stewart, 34, on Monday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Stewart was charged with murder in the shooting at a BP station in the 3200 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the newspaper.

“Initial investigation revealed that the victim was getting into his vehicle to leave when a male approached him, spoke with him, and then shot him,” Jones said.

Police have not revealed a motive for the slaying.
