Man sentenced to 12 years for son’s death

A man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of his adult son has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Albert Gary Ybanez received the maximum sentence on Thursday.

Ybanez is convicted of shooting his 35-year-old son, Franklin Ybanez, last July on Hackamore Drive South.

According to court documents, police said the two men beat each other up before Franklin was shot and killed. An autopsy found that he was was shot once in the back.

Albert told police he was protecting his family and had to shoot Franklin. Several witnesses told police the two had been in several verbal fights in the days leading up to the shooting.

Police have a witness that says Franklin appeared to be leaving the property when he was shot.
