Colorado patrol to appeal anti-gay findings

The Colorado State Patrol says it will appeal a ruling by an administrative law judge that found the patrol fostered an anti-gay culture.

Public safety director Jim Davis told KMGH-TV (http://bit.ly/Pk2lBh) on Wednesday he does not believe there is discrimination in the state patrol or anywhere in the Department of Public Safety based on sexual orientation.

The judge ordered changes after a former patrol captain admitted he was gay during a polygraph exam. The judge says the questioning was out of line and ordered the patrol to follow its own policies forbidding discrimination after the trooper was not rehired.

During the exam, the former captain admitted to the judge that he withheld information about his sexual orientation, but the judge ruled that was irrelevant.
