Waldo Canyon Fire victims move into rental home
Susan Solich, her daughter and four grandsons have moved into a rental home after losing their home in the Waldo Canyon Fire.
Many viewers have asked how the family is doing, and KRDO NewsChannel 13 caught up with them on Wednesday.
In the fall of 2010, the four boys lost their parents. Their mother died in her sleep, and just three months later, their father died of a heart attack.
Now, the family is also dealing with the loss of their home.
Solich and her family have moved into a rental home for now. Her insurance company has provided rental furniture along with silverware and bedding.
She said the boys have kept busy, and the entire family has been working to make their rental feel like a home.
The family only had about 12 minutes to evacuate, so they grabbed only their most important items.
Brandon Flowers, the oldest of the boys, said he grabbed his father and mother’s ashes and the funeral flag from his father’s ceremony.
Connor, the youngest of the boys, said he saved the blanket that his father gave him.
Solich said she was also able to save her grandmother’s sewing machine and many family videos and pictures.
“It was filled with 18 years of memories,” she said.
Solich said she is not sure if she will rebuild their home in Mountain Shadows.
She said they do want to move forward with hope, though. The family has been overwhelmed with all the support from the community.
