1 dead in Pueblo West motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist has died after speeding and crashing into a dump truck in Pueblo West on Tuesday morning.

According to State Patrol, one of their aircraft clocked the motorcyclist driving at high rates of speed, sometimes over 100 mph. The 2008 Honda motorcycle was traveling northbound on I-25 when it failed to yield to troopers on the ground. The Honda then crossed over into the southbound lanes and continued south on I-25. The motorcyclist exited the highway at Purcell Blvd and headed through Pueblo West towards U.S. 50. U.S. 50 was closed in Pueblo West for a short time.

State troopers followed the motorcyclist about a mile behind while the aircraft kept sight of the driver.

The motorcyclist ended up crashing into a dump truck that was turning near the Pueblo Works Depot, eastbound on E McCulloch Blvd. The dump truck was making a legal turn, according to State Patrol. The motorcyclist, identified as 31-year-old Robert Frye from Pueblo West, was pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck driver, a 55-year-old male from Pueblo, was uninjured in the crash.

State Patrol tells us that the motorcycle involved in the crash was reported stolen out of Colorado Springs on July 15th.

The intersection of N McCulloch Blvd and Industrial Blvd was closed while troopers investigated the scene but has since reopened.
