Details emerge in alleged sexual assault at Liberty High School

A Liberty High School coach and teacher removed from the school by School District 20 following allegations of a sexual relationship with a student waived his first court appearance Wednesday.

Travis Clark, 32, is charged with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, a class four felony that could send the former basketball coach to prison if he’s convicted.

Clark was suspended by D-20 school leaders in March. Arrest documents alleged that Clark and the 18-year old female exchanged oral sex while at school.

Clark and the student, who was in his science class, worked out an agreement where she would help him do inventory for the basketball team during her off period.

The victim told police that nothing happened on their first day together but videotape shows her adjusting her blouse and skirt following some off camera activity in the gym.

The two were back together at least three other times doing inventory in the gym. When police talked with the alleged victim she said Clark “did nothing” on their first and third visit but told police things were different on her second visit.

According to arrest documents the alleged victim told investigators that Clark affixed post it notes on the backside of her jeans with the words “very nice” written on them. She also told investigators that he kept grabbing at her and even got his bare hand on her backside after he slid it down her jeans. She said she rebuffed Clark’s advances.

The alleged victim told her friends a different story, according to the affidavit. She reportedly bragged about oral sex with Clark to her friends. She also reportedly told them the two planned to meet at his apartment once she was no longer grounded.

Those friends went to school leaders who in turn called police. Colorado Springs Police launched their investigation after those encounters in the gym. It came to light afterward that while the initial meeting was during the alleged victim’s off period, subsequent work sessions required a note from the coach to get the 18-year-old out of other classes.

CSPD also found cellphone records that show Clark and the teen sent 250 text messages to each other over the course of a week at the end of February.
