Former city council member supports Jerry Pacheco

City Council members are remaining tight-lipped about all the drama surrounding former city manager, Jerry Pacheco.

However, former city council member Ray Aguilar did speak up about Pacheco and his recent troubles with the law.

“Jerry is in a tough position, every time that I see him all he wants to do is break down and cry. I understand that,” said Aguilar.

Which is why he is asking for a little compassion.

“He is in Colorado Springs for a treatment program. It’s easy to kick someone when they are down, but I hope everyone says a little prayer for him and that he gets better,” said Aguilar.

He is hoping that his stay at an alcohol treatment program will help turn his life around.

“Jerry is really a bright man and he can still provide great services to this community,” said Aguilar.

But, he isn’t blind to all the controversy surrounding Pacheco.

“Jerry is in a position that he is in because of his own making,” said Aguilar.

Last year, KRDO learned Pacheco had an affair with a subordinate. Then, he had a hit-and-run accident, which caused him to lose his job as city manager. However, he was allowed to keep his job as city planner. At the end of June, he was arrested for drinking under the influence and he ran from the scene.

“Hopefully he can redeem himself,” said Aguilar.

Interim City Manager Jim Munch is the only one who can fire Pacheco from his city planner position. KRDO was unable to reach him for comment.
