Waiting for the smoke to clear

Firefighters want to make sure the smoke has cleared before they mark the Waldo Canyon fire as 100 percent contained.

There were reports of smoke near Blogett Peak Saturday. Officials said a helicopter dropped 10 bucket loads for water on the spot. Firefighters are still working on dozer lines. Right now, officials are marking the Waldo Canyon fire as 98% contained.

The Holmes Middle School camp in Coorado Springs has closed and the team has moved their Incident Command Post to the Woodland Park High School

125 personnel continue to work on the fire. It’s burned 18,247 acres.

Some trails and roads within the Pike National Forest remain closed for safety. The closure includes from Hwy 24 north to Forest Road 322 and from Rampart Range Road east to the Forest boundary near Colorado Springs. Rampart Reservoir is also closed.
