Colorado gets Federal disaster assistance

Governor John Hickenlooper’s request for Federal disaster assistance, due to the recent wildfires, has been accepted.

The Governor announced Thursday evening that Colorado’s request for a major disaster declaration had been reviewed and accepted by the White House.

The presidential major disaster declaration will bring more federal assistance to Colorado communities impacted by the Waldo Canyon Fire in El Paso Countyand the High Park Fire in Larimer County.

Governor Hickenlooper says that money will provide resources for crisis counseling and disaster unemployment assistance; public assistance for emergency work; and a hazard mitigation grant program.

“With this funding we will be able to provide much needed assistance to our communities affected by wildfires,” said Hickenlooper. “This news, combined with President Obama’s visit, makes clear that the whole country is with us in fighting these fires and recovering from their devastation.”
