Old Colorado City evacuation information causes confusion

On Wednesday afternoon, information that included Old Colorado City as an area under a pre-evacuation notice was circulated.

It is unclear where this incorrect information originated.

The city of Colorado Springs did clarify to KRDO Newschannel 13 that Old Colorado City was not under any notice.

However, the confusion led to closures of businesses in the area and uncertainty among residents.

“Very daunting, because it’s like you never know one minute to the next,” said Sandy Kressner, who said the mixed messages were confusing and scary.

Many residents told KRDO Newschannel 13 that they were confused, but have decided to be prepared.

“We’ve been prepping ourselves anyway,” said Erika Specht, whose father lives in Old Colorado City.

Jim Butler, manager of The Medicine Shoppe, said his pharmacy is ready to evacuate if the time comes. He told KRDO Newchannel 13 that even though the area is not under a pre-evacuation notice, he is living his life and conducting his business as if it is.

“I just don’t trust it. We’ve seen the fire up there and we’ve seen the flames. Of course, everybody saw what happened yesterday north of us, and I’m at the point where too much has happened. I don’t trust it anymore,” said Butler.
