Stop a firestarter

As of Friday, there have been 20 fires set by someone or more than one person in Teller County since Monday. Sheriff Mike Ensminger tells me his dispatch has received 80 calls from people who thought there was something unusual going on in their neighborhood. He says, “We need people to be on a keen sense of awareness.”

Sheriff Ensminger says this firebug has been very active. This person or people set seven on Wednesday and 6 just on Thursday night. The total acreage has been very small for each fire. The largest is at a half an acre.

So far there is no description of the suspect or suspects and no description of the vehicle being driven. Sheriff Ensminger did confirm to me that when it comes to the investigation, “The terrain where these fires are being started seems to be similar in nature and coupled with the frequency of them, causes us to believe there is a fire starter.”

If you see or know something about these arson fires, don’t hesitate to call the Teller County Sheriff’s Office at 719-687-9652.
