YouTube parody targets CSFD
A YouTube video’s getting a first and second look for its targeting of the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The person who posted it two week ago is Bob Loblaw. It’s probably not his real name unless he’s a character in a sitcom.
The video uses a movie scene of Adolf Hitler in the bunker. This particular scene has been used a lot by people wanting to do parodies. The person who did this one also uses subtitles to get his or her message across. It’s titled, “Hitler Rants About Fire Department Priorities”. This video focuses on what the person who posted it feels are problems within the CSFD and how Fire Chief Richard Brown is solving them.
As you watch the video, you can see the person who put it together does know the inside workings of the Fire Department. I reached out to Fire Chief Richard Brown to get his take on the video. The following is a statement from CSFD:
“The Colorado Springs Fire Department fulfills our mission of providing the highest quality problem solving and emergency service to our community every day with pride. The insensitivity of a YouTube video posted recently is inexcusable. It is an unfair representation of the men and women on our Fire Department that work so hard to make our community a safer place to live. If we determine that public resources were used for the creation or dissemination of this distasteful and hateful communication, we will take appropriate action. City computer misuse may result in discipline, up to and including discharge.”
I also reached out to the Jewish Community to find out how Jewish leaders in Colorado Springs feel about the video and its use of Adolf Hitler as the springboard for criticisms of the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The following is a statement on behalf of Temple Shalom and the American Jewish Committee of Colorado:
“The creator of this outrageous video has the first amendment right to express himself in such hateful manner … but our community leaders have the moral obligation to strongly condemn the use of vulgar Nazi imagery to attack our Fire Department officials, especially in light of the recent Nazi graffiti defacing Temple Beit Torah.”
Hitler and Nazi Germany are linked to the murders of six million Jews in what the Nazis called the Final Solution.
