Man arrested accused of impersonating High Park Firefighter

A Denver man was arrested accused of impersonating a firefighter while crews battle the High Park Fire in Larimer County

Larimer County Sheriff’s officials said Michael Stillman Maher, 30, was seen in the fire area in a truck with a stolen government license plate Saturday night. A wild land fire chief approached him and Maher gave him fake fire credentials.

Officials said deputies later found Maher at a bar in Laporte, Colorado and he was arrested. The government license plate turned out to be stolen from the Glenwood Springs, officials said. Larimer County officials said there was also a gun and stolen property found in Maher’s truck.

Deputies said Maher faces charges of impersonating a fire official and theft.
