HOA President Arrested For Theft

The developer and HOA president of Prairie Vista Meadows has been arrested and faces multiple charges, including theft. Craig McConnell’s alleged crimes came to light after a family said they were being bullied for asking questions.

The Meier Family has been living in their home for three years, and they said that the majority of the time has been a battle with their HOA. The battle turned into a nightmare, after Christopher Meier asked the HOA attorney why McConnell, as the developer, was still the HOA president when he had sold the majority of his lots and did not own property in the community.

McConnell got a bill for the attorney’s time, but he forwarded it to the Meier family, according to court documents.

“We received the bill but it had Craig’s name at the top of it. My husband called the lawyer and said, ‘ Why are we receiving this?’ The lawyer said ‘ Craig told me you would pay the fees.’ We knew something was amiss,” said Nicole Meier.

According to judicial documents on the case, the Meier family refused to pay the bill, but only got larger bills from the HOA, that included different attorney names the family said it was not familiar with.

After the Meier family didn’t pay the lawyer bills and refused to communicate with the HOA further, McConnell put a lien on the Meier home. That is when the family called the District Attorney’s Office.

“The DA actually got involved. The county did a whole investigation on the lien, but then after that started looking into the finances of the HOA itself,” said Nicole Meier.

Court documents indicate that the county found enough evidence to prove that McConnell was using HOA money to fund other development projects. The man is free on $10,000 bond.

McConnell is facing charges for the way he handled the HOA money. The Meier family still has a lien on their home for thousands of dollars they said should not be paid by them. The Meier family must got to court themselves to resolve the lien.
