Colo. Springs driver cited after short pursuit, crash

A Colorado Springs man was cited after leading police on a short pursuit and causing a crash Saturday night.

It started shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday on S. Circle Dr. near Monterey Dr.

An officer said that a blue Toyota sedan almost sideswiped his patrol car and another car, forcing it off the roadway.

The officer attempted to pull the driver over, but Rafael Melendez, 56, kept going.

According to the officer, Melendez sped up and crashed his car into a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Circle Dr. and Janitell Rd.

Melendez complained of injury, so he was taken to Memorial Hospital.

Police said nobody in the Jeep was injured.
