Standoff in Manitou Springs over

Two children are safe after a standoff at the Millwheel Apartments in Manitou Springs early Friday morning.

Manitou Springs police surrounded the apartments after a report of a man who locked his two nephews in the bathroom and barricaded himself inside with knives.

Police blocked off the 1100 block of Manitou Avenue while they dealt with the situation.

Both of the children were reunited safely with their mother.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke to Devin Keymer, 14, who was locked in his uncle’s bathroom Friday morning.

He said he was not scared, but was concerned about his 3-year-old brother, Dakota.

The manager of the apartment complex, Brandon Bowden, said the man has caused problems in the past because of drug and alcohol abuse.

He told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the uncle was evicted from the complex about two weeks ago.

Bowden said the trouble apparently started around 3:30 a.m. Friday when the man started mooning surveillance cameras and yelling out profanities.
