UPDATE: Wildfire burned 30 acres in Park County

Voluntary evacuations have been suggested for a one-mile radius around the Arkansas fire burning 2-miles west of Lake George in Park County.

The fire is about one mile south of Hwy 24 and is burning grass and ponderosa.

The U.S. Forest Service says the fire is currently estimated at about 30 acres. 100 firefighters are working to battle the flames and there is currently no containment. However, fire officials say that they are able to keep the fire at about 30 acres due to the number of people they have fighting the fire. The fire was caused by lightning on Wednesday night and was discovered early Thursday morning.

Seven fire engines, one water tanker, two firefighting ground hand crews and two helicopters are fighting the fire, according the the Forest Service.

In addition to the voluntary evacuations for one mile around the fire, Park County used a reverse notification to alert 61 nearby residences to be prepared to evacuate.

The Forest Service says there are 8 structures within a mile of the fire and they are considered threatened.

The Forest Service says any spread of the fire to the east could threaten the Lake George Fire Station, which is currently the staging area for firefighters, and the town of Lake George.

Officials are advising travelers along Highway 24 not to stop to look at the fire in order to keep traffic moving and travelers safe as well as to keep the road clear for emergency vehicles.
