Park Co. fire remains out of control
The 70 acre fire that sparked Sunday evening is continuing to scorch the land near Badger Mountain.
Named the Weber Fire, the blaze is located just north of Wilkerson Pass and as of Monday afternoon was only 20 percent contained.
A third team of fire fighters will be joining the existing efforts Monday evening.
The Flathead Fire Fighters are based out of Montana but were working in Craig.
The 20-person team will bring the number of personnel at the scene to 60 by Tuesday morning.
“Hopefully, we’ll get this 20-person crew and put this one to bed so they can concentrate their effort on the other ones,” said Ralph Bellah, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Services.
Bellah said Park County is lucky to get this additional crew because resources are stretched thin with the other fires burning in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Bellah said the fire is threatening a single home but the home’s owners were not living in it at the time.
Bellah said the threat to the home has been mitigated with firefighters successfully defending the structure.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
