Company fined over alleged radiology violations

The Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment has fined an industrial radiography company more than
$240,000 over allegations the company and its radiation safety
officer violated rules for handling radioactive materials.

The department says the fines were levied against Advance
Painting Services Inc., alleging company officials used radiography
equipment without a valid license and failed to ensure worker
safety. The equipment has several industrial uses, including
inspection of the quality of welds.

The health department says there is no evidence workers were
harmed.

A company official who refused to give her name says the safety
officer, Ricky Perkins, no longer works for the company and she had
no comment. Perkins could not be reached for a response.
