Community Helps Family Save Service Dog, Shadow

Animal lovers stepped up to keep a service dog from being put down.

Shadow was picked up by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak region after getting loose from his yard earlier this week. The family was on a deadline to raise $600 and install a fence at their home in order to get the dog back.

“I saw your clip on the news and it touched me because I love animals,” said Janis Frazee, who was one of many that donated money to help Shadow’s family.

The Reynolds had to raise the money and build a fence to keep Shadow alive.

“I had every doubt in the world that this would never happen,” said Aaron Rice, who usually has Shadow by his side to help with his bipolar disorder. Rice’s neighbor reported the dog to the humane society because it was not contained. Robert Williamson of Hart Home Improvement and Landscaping in Colorado Springs donated his time and materials to put up a fence for the family.

Rice said the money had to be turned into the humane society by closing time Sunday. With the community help the family met that deadline.

“I’m very excited,” said Amanda Reynolds, Rice’s mother, “I’m overwhelmed I can’t believe anyone in this world would help like this.”

Shadow will get to come home this week, according to the family.
