Soldier Apprehends Man Accused Of 13 Robberies

A Ft. Carson soldier helped police nab a man wanted for a string of robberies in which he used a rock, flammable liquid, knife or handgun to steal money.

Police arrested Dwight Davis, 51, on Monday. He’s accused of 13 robberies.

Monday night, police said Davis tried to burglarize Ft. Carson soldier Justin Wood Casillas’ apartment on Alvarado Drive.

Casillas told KRDO Newschannel 13 that he was sleeping and woke up to see Davis standing in his living room. Casillas said he grabbed his pistol.

“I asked him if he was alright,” said Casillas, who said he thought Davis may have accidentally entered the wrong apartment.

He said when Davis didn’t respond, he told him to put his hands up.

“I was so close to shooting him, but he threw his hands up at the last minute,” said Casillas.

Casillas said after he grabbed Davis, Davis told him, “You might as well kill me now. If they get me, I’m going away for a long time.” Casillas said Davis appeared to be under the influence of something.

When police got there, Casillas threw his gun back into his apartment so it wouldn’t be a concern for officers. At that point, Davis jumped up to his feet and began running. He was caught by an officer in the parking lot.

Police already had a warrant for Davis’ arrest in connection with a robbery and an attempted robbery and was suspected in several other robberies over a 5-week span, police said.

Davis faces felony charges in the following robberies:

Davis will also be charged in the burglary on Sunday against his step-father, a 74-year-old man.

Davis allegedly held a knife to his head, demanding money, according to an affidavit.

The victim said Davis yelled thing at him such as “I know you’ve got money in here”, “you never treated my mother right,” and “I’ll kill you!”

Police said that Davis was a transient which added difficulty to pin-pointing his location.
