Alamosa Teen Killed In Crash

A teenager was killed in an accident on Alamosa County Road 8 South on Friday.

The crash happened around 2:00 p.m. just east of Alamosa County Road 105 S, three miles southwest of Alamosa.

Investigators say a 16-year-old girl was driving a 1995 Dodge sedan westbound on County Rd 8 South and swerved onto the eastbound lane. A 2000 Peterbilt Semi, loaded with cattle, collided with the teen’s car. The driver of the semi, 38-year-old Brock Canty attempted to avoid the collision by braking and steering to the ditch. The semi came to rest in the ditch off the south side of the road. The 16-year-old was ejected from her car and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Alamosa County Coroner’s Office. Her name has not been released.

Authorities say investigation will continue to determine whether or not drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor to the crash.

Canty was not injured in the crash and was wearing a seatbelt.
