UPDATE: Douglas Bruce Released From Jail
Colorado tax-bashing legend Douglas Bruce was released from the Denver Jail at 6:52 Thursday morning after serving 103 days for tax evasion.
He was sentenced to 180 days in February.
Denver Sheriff spokesman Capt. Frank Gale says Bruce’s time in jail was uneventful and that part of the reason for his early release is that he helped clean the inmate pod where he was held.
Bruce was convicted for evading state taxes, filing a false return and failing to file a tax return between 2005 and 2010. He is best known for spearheading the state’s Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights. The 1992 voter-approved constitutional amendment places limits on taxing and spending by the state and local governments.
