Trinidad School Board Member Resigns
According to our partners at Trinidad and Las Animas County News, the Trinidad School District Board of Education accepted the resignation of former board president Linda Vigil.
“There is really no right time to step down and I stayed until the end of the school year,” Vigil said. “I have not been pressured by anyone but my own children to step down, if they knew the process they would have recalled me themselves.”
Vigil was elected last November to a second term on the board of education.
“My priorities have been somewhat disorganized since I started my second term. I am a mother with a full-time job and I have a wonderful husband that helped me,” Vigil said. “But at the end of the day, I have to consider what’s best for me and my family. My family comes first. Being on the board is very time consuming and I found myself working countless hours to be an effective board member as well as a good mother and wife.”
The resignation comes amid speculation about a recall effort against Vigil. Vigil voted to hire Trinidad Superintendent Manuel Rodriguez last spring and some say she is being pressured by outside groups to fire him.
“She is a class act, she (Linda) has made her decision to resign for personal reasons,” Board President Charlene Bertolino told AroundTrinidad.com Thursday. “She was loyal and dedicated to the students, teachers and staff as well as the entire district being professional at all times.”
The board cannot act on a replacement for Vigil until their next board meeting on June 12th where the BOE is expected to ask for legal advice on how to proceed in the process in bringing on a new board member.
