Grim Reaper Video Wins Distracting Driving Contest

Two students win the McDivitt Law Firm’s 5th annual pulic service announcement contest.

Daniel Carr, a 9th grade homeschool student in Woodland Park, and Michelle Manthei, a 12th grade student at Coronado High School are the 2012 winners.

The law firm asked area students to create videos about safe driving and how to prevent problems such as distracted driving, lack of seatbelt use, and impaired driving.

Both students utilized green screen techniques to create impressive special effects to make a point about the dangers of texting while driving.

Carr’s PSA features the grim reaper, who tries his hardest to distract the driver by handing him a cheeseburger, drink and cell phone.

“I wanted to make something both creative and that had shock factor to it to get the message across,” said Carr.

Carr said he enjoys making videos and often enters contests. This one, stood out for him.

“I saw this as a perfect opportunity to utilize my film making to help out my community by raising awareness on distracted driving,” said Carr.

Michelle?s PSA is incorporates a futuristic theme including spaceships. She receives a text from a date who says he is five minutes away. When he shows up immediately, she turns him down for texting and flying.
