City Names New Chief Financial Officer

Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach announced on Thursday a new Chief Financial Officer.

Kara Skinner has been promoted to the CFO position, pending confirmation by City Council on June 12.

According to Mayor Bach, the search was nationwide and included a two-stage interview process with more than 125 candidates.

She has been with the City since 2006 when she started as a Principal Analyst in the Budget Office. She served as Interim Finance Director from July 2011 to February 2012 and then as Interim Budget Director from late February 2012 until this promotion to CFO.

Skinner began her career in 1989 as a Utility Analyst at the Maine Public Utilities Commission. She also worked at the Hawaiian Electric Company and as an economist at the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.

Skinner earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master’s Degree in Economics from Duke University.

Her salary will be $135,000 annually.
