Body Found In Empty Lot Identified, Death Ruled Homicide

Police have identified a body found in an empty lot off S Nevada Ave on Wednesday as a local transient.

50-year-old James Bidgood was found dead in what appeared to be a makeshift camp near 100 Metzler Pl. Officers from the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) recognized Bidgood as a local transient whom they had contact with on prior occasions.

On Thursday, the Coroner ruled Bidgood’s death a homicide but did not provide any other details surrounding his death. Investigators told us on Wednesday that they found Bidgood with obvious signs of trauma to his body.

“We don’t have any information that there is any danger to the community at all,” said Larry Herbert with CSPD.

Neighbors tell us they thought they heard gunshots around midnight, but no one called police.

This is the 11th homicide in Colorado Springs in 2012.
