Embattled Pueblo City Manager Resigns

Pueblo City Manager Jerry Pacheco agrees to resign after driving away from the scene of a minor traffic accident that caused no injuries. The move also comes after a series of other issues Target 13 Investigates first uncovered in October 2011.

Those problems included an alleged inappropriate relationship with a subordinate, which led to a restructuring of city leadership so Pacheco would not be her supervisor anymore.

It was her car Pacheco was driving during the recent hit & run.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports the City Council asked Pacheco to resign Tuesday night, and he agreed on condition he keep his job as head of city planning.

Pacheco was driving his girlfriend’s car on May 23 when the vehicle rolled backward and hit another car at a traffic light.

Pacheco drove away, but the other driver was already on the phone with 911 reporting that Pacheco had been driving erratically. She also relayed the license plate number.

Police didn’t ticket Pacheco. Police Chief Luis Velez has said he would review police policies but said officers have discretion on writing tickets in minor traffic accidents.
