Escaped Pueblo Mental Health Patient Caught

The man who escaped from the Mental Health Institution in Pueblo was take into custody early Friday morning in Colorado Springs.

50-year-old Ronald Braa was captured after he called police to turn himself in at the 7-Eleven store at 1685 Jet Wing Drive, according to Colorado Springs Police spokeswoman Barbara Miller.

He had signed out on Thursday evening because he had privileges to do so. CMHIP says he left around 8:15 p.m. and did not return at the designated time. CMHIP is located at 1600 West 24th St.

Braa was committed to the Mental Health Institute in January 2007 after a plea deal in which he was ruled not guilty of attempted first degree murder of a police officer by reason of insanity. His offense occurred in Douglas County and also includes stalking, violation of bail bond, and a protection order violation.
