Taylor Farms Baby Spinach Recalled

Taylor Farms is recalling its organic baby spinach over concerns it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella is a bacterium which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

A random test on a finished package of spinach by the United States Food and Drug Administration found Salmonella.

The recall is for:

?Private Selections, Organic — Baby Spinach, 5 oz. clamshell, package code TFRS 130B 1503 KT34, Best by: 5-25-12. ?Private Selections, Organic — Baby Spinach, 5 oz. clamshell, package code TFRS 130B 1803 KT34, Best by: 5-25-12. ?Marketside, Organic — Baby Spinach, 10 oz. clamshell, package code TFRS130B16, Best by: 5-25-12. The “best by” date is located on the lower right portion of the front label.

There have been no reported illnesses attributed to the recalled items.

In 2011, Taylor Farms had to recall bagged salad blends twice; once in March and another time in October.
