Officer Assaulted, One Arrest

Colorado Springs police make an arrest after a traffic crash.

Police say they responded to a call about a car off the roadway near South Union and East Fountain Boulevards shortly before 1 a.m.

When the officer arrived, two women were outside the vehicle verbally arguing, police said.

When the officer approached the women and asked them to calm down, one of the women hit the officer, striking him in the face.

That’s when officers arrested 19 year old Audra Maldonad.

Police tell us she continued to be uncooperative and even kicked an officer while being booked into jail.

Maldonad faces one count og second degree assault on a peace officer and underage drinking.

The second woman, 20 year old Sarah Himmel, was ticketed for driving under the influence.
