Funeral Thursday For Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has ordered flags be lowered to half-staff on public buildings statewide Thursday in honor of a Fort Carson soldier from Arizona.

Hickenlooper’s office says a private funeral is being held Thursday in Colorado for 30-year-old 1st Lt. Alejo R. Thompson of Yuma. Thompson died May 11 in Afghanistan. Military officials have said he died of injuries after his dismounted patrol came under small arms fire.

Thompson was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson in Colorado. The Army post held a memorial service for him Monday.
