Fort Carson Remembers Fallen Hero

1st Lt. Alejo Thompson died in Afghanistan on May 11 when his unit came under fire during a routine patrol.

“It’s just one of those things. You can’t believe that such a great person can go out as quickly as he did,” said 1st Lt. Yancy Bush who worked with Thompson.

The fallen hero joined the Army in 2000, and worked his way toward becoming an officer, Fellow soldiers remember Thompson as a true professional.

“With him being prior service, he was more mature that the average lieutenant , but yeah, he was a great guy from what I knew,” said Capt. Steve Shiel.

Thompson was also honored at Peterson Air Force Base when his body arrived in Colorado.
