Two Arrested After Shoplifting, Crashing Vehicle
Two shoplifting suspects were arrested after shoplifting then crashing into a fence on Tuesday.
Police say that two people were suspected of shoplifting at the Kohl’s on North Nevada Ave around noon. They got away with several items, including some high-end Nike shoes.
Officers searching the area spotted the suspect vehicle in the Rosemont at Shadow Mountain apartment complex near N Nevada and Garden of the Gods Rd. As officers entered the apartment complex, the driver of the suspect vehicle drove through the apartment complex, stopping at a dead-end. The driver then rammed a large wrought iron gate in an attempt to escape; but the vehicle became wedged within the gate.
Three people in the suspect vehicle were taken into custody. Police say that two of the suspects were in Kohl’s while the third was in the nearby Lowe’s store returning a large quantity of paint. This aspect of the incident is still under investigation according to police.
One suspect was arrested and released on a summons for theft misdemeanor and another was transported to the Criminal Justice Center on charges of Felony Eluding, Felony Criminal Mischief, and Theft Misdemeanor. The two suspects are Larry Akins and Cory Williams.
