Crews Fight Growing Wildfire In Poudre Canyon

A single-engine air tanker is helping firefighters as they try to contain a wildfire burning in Larimer County, in low humidity and increasing winds.

The U.S. Forest Service says the fire is burning through timber, grass and brush on an estimated 150 acres northeast of the Hewlett Gulch Trailhead in Poudre Canyon. Two trails in the area are closed.

No structures were immediately threatened Monday. The fire is within a mile of Poudre Park. A pre-notification has been sent to residents from MM110 to MM115 1/4 mile north and south of the Poudre River to advise of wildfire and to be prepared to evacuate if needed.

The Forest Service says a heavy air tanker and helicopter also were requested to help fight the fire from above.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
