Tickets For Texting and Walking?

You’ve probably seen them, the people walking aimlessly, distracted by a cellphone and wandering into the street, walking into signs and even other people.

Now a city police chief in New Jersey is now ordering his officers ticket careless pedestrians on the spot. He says reckless pedestrians have caused nearly two dozen accidents in his city this year. Three of those accidents were fatal. After trying pamphlets and brochures to inform people of the dangers of walking aimlessly, the chief is taking it up a notch.

There’s no specific charge for being a careless pedestrian, but Chief Ripoli says officers in Fort Lee know it when they see it and they are on the look out.
