Gilbert Sanchez Faces 15 Charges In Connection With Deadly Accident

The man suspected of killing three Alamosa teens in an alleged drunk driving accident could spent the rest of his life in jail.

Gilbert Sanchez, could get 104 years in prison. He faces 15 charges in connection with the deadly accident.

Sanchez faces six charges of vehicular homicide, two charges for each girl that was killed. The district attorney explained that one charge is for driving under the influence, which resulted in the death of someone, and the second vehicular homicide charge is for driving in a reckless manner that resulted in the death of someone.

?I cannot let emotions take me in a certain direction in this case. I have to be thoughtful and follow the law and I intend that our office will do that, but in that system, we are going to have justice served, ? said District Attorney Bill Thiebaut.

Sanchez also faces four charges of vehicular assault, for the two girls riding in the truck with him. There is also two charges of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, also for the two girls riding in the truck.

There are also DUI charges, reckless driving and running a red light.

All three teens were from Alamosa, there were on their way home from a church event. Two girls were also riding in the truck with Sanchez, they were ejected and are expected to recover.
