Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder For Hammer Attack

A man in his 50s is recovering from an attack in his own home after Colorado Springs Police said a burglar hit him in the head with a hammer.

It happened Thursday just after 4 p.m. on Agate Drive near Maizeland Drive and Academy Boulevard.

Police said on Friday they arrested Dennis O’Dell, who is in his early 30s. O’Dell is charged with Attempted 1st degree Murder.

A police spokeswoman said there is no safety concern in the neighborhood, adding the likely attacker and the victim knew each other and that this is probably an isolated incident.

Neighbors said it’s not the first time they’ve seen police at the home.

“They’ve had problems in the past with their son, and I hope it’s not him, but I feel bad for them anyway,” said Barbara Hewett, who lives around the corner.

The victim has not been identified. He is still in the hospital as of 2:30 p.m. Friday with serious injuries to the head.
