Day Of Prayer Unconstitutional

Colorado’s state day of prayer violates the First Amendment, according to a decision by the Colorado Court of Appeals.

A three judge panel ruled that when the state sponsors prayer it sends a message that those who pray are favored members of Colorado’s political community, undermining the premise that the government serves everyone equally. Day of Prayer events are organized with the help of the Colorado Springs-based National Day Of Prayer Task Force led by the wife of the Focus on the Family founder.

Governor John Hickenlooper is looking at appealing the ruling to the Colorado Supreme Court.
