Standoff Over In Pueblo West

Pueblo County Sheriff’s deputies say that a standoff has ended peacefully in Pueblo West.

A man armed with a shotgun was threatening to commit suicide at a home in the 600 block of South McCoy Drive, deputies say.

Deputies were able to get the man’s 91-year-old mother out of the home safely. Negotiators and the SWAT team continued to talk the man down and by 10:00 a.m. he surrendered peacefully.

68-year-old James Copeland was taken into custody and taken to Parkview Medical Center for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.

Copeland faces two counts of menacing with a deadly weapon and prohibited use of weapon. Deputies says that alcohol and/or drugs are suspected factors in this event.

During the incident, neighbors received a reverse notification, warning them to stay inside.
