Too Tall Townhome Developer Twist

There are more problems for the developer of the too tall townhomes.

KRDO NewsChannel13 has learned that the company – Today’s Homes – has laid-off all of its employees.

Linda Kranz and several other neighbors say they have been dealing with townhomes towering over their backyards. The Colorado Planning Commission deemed some of the homes at Dublin Terrace too high. Neighbors that live behind the complex say the bad planning affects everyone.

?I feel bad not only for us, but for the people that are going to buy these units. As you can see, we are right on top of each other,? said Linda Kranz who has lived in her home for about a year and a half.

The height of three of the buildings is a mistake made by and admitted by the developers. During a past meeting with the Colorado Springs Planning Commission, developers said the mistake would be fixed.

?As far as criticism goes, that is part of it. You just deal with it, accept it as a result of the mistake you made, but certainly we are going to take care of this as quickly as possible,? said Matthew Ervin with Today?s Homes, during the meeting.

The townhomes were to be moved by June, but now Today?s Homes may be no more, as all employees have been laid off. KRDO Newschannel13 called and even went to the office of the developers, but everything closed.

Calls were also not returned from the parent company Unity Builders Group out of Calgary, Canada.

People in the area say they were not told about the layoffs, but noticed that work stopped last week.

?So, then you’d be starting all over again, I?d imagine, from square one with the talks. I don’t know how that changes, but it is going to be a mess,? said Kranz.

It?s still unclear when the homes will be moved.
