Homecomings Continue At Fort Carson

A little trickery was mixed in with the celebration to welcome home returning soldiers at Fort Carson on Tuesday.

Nicole Morman and her three daughters said they told Sgt. Bernard Morman that they would be unable to attend the ceremony. Sgt. Morman said he wasn’t expecting them until he saw his youngest daughter, Alexia, 5, approaching him.

“We wanted it to be a surprise,” said Nicole Morman. “The (last) deployment, I stayed home with family. This deployment, I was here by myself with just the girls. I’m relieved. I get a break.”

Sgt. Morman said this, his second deployment, was more stressful than the first because he had more work to do.”

“Hopefully, this is my last one,” he said. “I don’t plan on deploying again.”

Oldest daughter Kenashia, 13, said she most wants to go to a park and play because she had to be more responsible while her father was away, and help care for her two sisters.

Two hundred soldiers arrived on schedule at Fort Carson on Tuesday, following 200 on Monday and Sunday. More than 3,000 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division will gradually return this month.

Fort Carson announced a delay in the arrival of 130 soldiers from another unit, the 615th Construction Engineer Company. That unit’s return time has changed from 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to 3:40 a.m. Thursday.
