Founder Of Hispania News Passes Away

The founder and owner of Hispania News, Robert L. Armendariz, passed away on Wednesday.

The cause of his death is unknown at this time, though his son is saying it looks like a possible heart attack.

Armendariz was also the former president of the Colorado Springs Press Association.

Bob Armendariz, a military veteran, began publishing the bilingual newspaper Hispania News back in 1987. The paper was preparing to publish a special edition in honor of 25 years of service.

In addition to publishing, Armendariz was an active member of the community, and a frequent advocate for Latino issues in and around the Pikes Peak region.

The newspaper he created has struggled in recent years, faced with revenue shortages in a tough economy.

Family and friends are now collecting donations so that the 25th Anniversary edition of the Hispania News can go to print.

You can find out more about that effort at this Facebook page.

Plans for his service are still pending.
