Fiery Car Crash Blamed On Miller Moths

A driver distracted by Miller Moths was involved in a fiery crash on Tuesday evening.

It happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the 7800 block of Lexington Dr. An 18-year-old female driver was distracted by the moths and lost control of her vehicle, veering to the right of the roadway and hitting a tree.

The impact of the crash ruptured a fuel line which caused a significant amount of fuel to pour from the vehicle. Citizens from a passing vehicle stopped to pull the driver out of the car through the open driver’s door window. Moments later, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The driver sustained minor injuries and did not require transport to the hospital. Colorado Springs fire crews extinguished the fire.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in this accident.

Miller Moths have migrated to the Front Range early this year due to an unusually mild winter.
