Bullets Strike House In Colorado Springs

What began as an apparent harmless exchange of words ended with three shots fired and a house struck with a bullet in Colorado Springs at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Jose Orozco, 50, said he was driving to 760 South El Paso Street to visit his elderly mother and stepfather when a group of four young adult men confronted him and drove their vehicles dangerously close to his pickup truck.

“I told one of them, ‘What is your problem?’ ” Orozco said. “And they started calling me all these names, and they passed by. That’s when I heard the shots. The first two sounded like a gun. But the last one sounded like it popped. I’m thinking that’s when it hit the house.”

Orozco said he went inside to find a bullet had penetrated an upstairs window, the walls of two guest rooms and barely missed a collection of family photos.

Fortunately, he said his mother was away at the time and his stepfather was downstairs.

Orozco said it’s the first trouble his family has seen in their 40 years in the neighborhood. He said he and his mother are wondering whether she should move out.

Police are investigating but have no leads, suspects or witnesses. Call police at 444-7000 if you have any information about the incident.
