Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs Sign Covenant

Army leaders and Colorado Springs officials are signing a community covenant recognizing the ties between the city and Fort Carson.

Army Secretary John McHugh, Fort Carson commander Major General Joseph Anderson and Colorado Springs Mayor Bach signed the Army Community Covenant at City Hall, Wednesday morning.

“It’s just a message to be sent to both the communities on and off post that we’re in partnership and we care about each other,” said McHugh.

This is the second covenant signed between Fort Carson and Colorado Springs. The first was signed in 2009.

Fort Carson said signing the second covenant “represents a renewed commitment to mutual support between the civilian community and the 4th Infantry Division.”

McHugh said this was his first trip to Colorado Springs, and said he is very impressed by the relationship between the city and the mountain post.

“People want to live where they’re wanted, and their families want to live where they’re welcome. Clearly, as you look at the retiree community that has built up around this post, Colorado Springs and the other surrounding communities are just that kind of place,” said McHugh.

Major General Joseph Anderson, commander of Fort Carson, told KRDO Newschannel 13 the Mountain Post is very appreciative of the support and service they receive from the community.

He added that they are always in need of continued support of their wounded warriors, fallen heroes, military families and families of deployed soldiers.
