Man Arrested After Canon City Police Chase

After a short chase, Canon City police have arrested a man suspected of stealing a car.

Around 12:45 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a purse stolen out of a vehicle. An hour later officers saw a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle.

When officers tried to pull the car over, it sped away and a short pursuit ensued in the area of Hwy 50 and Dozier Ave. The driver abandoned the car in a parking lot behind a local motel and ran away.

Two additional officers were able to find the suspect and take him into custody.

The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Jason Woods of Colorado Springs. He is being held for investigation of first degree criminal trespass, aggravated motor vehicle theft, eluding a police officer, reckless driving, driving while license denied/canceled, and reckless endangerment.

The vehicle had been reported stolen to Colorado Springs Police Department on April 25th from a car dealer.
