Stranger Danger

A stranger danger alert in School District 12. Superintendent Dr. Walt Cooper sent a message to parents about the incident. It talks about the “recent trouble activity reported in the vicinity of Cheyenne Mountain Junior High and the Skyway neighborhood and asks for your assistance.”

Colorado Springs Police Information Officer Barbara Miller tells me the incident happened March 21st. A 16 year old boy was walking in the area around the junior high. He says a white delivery van with tinted windows approached him. He says there were three college aged men inside. The boy says one of the men offered him a ride home. He didn’t take it.

Miller says, “People who do this are smart, very skilled and very manipulative.” She reminds parents this kind of incident just reinforces the need to have the “talk” with kids about strangers. She says remind them, to trust their instincts. “If they think something is wrong or frightened by something, take that seriously.”
