Colorado Springs Ninth Homicide of 2012

Colorado Springs Police have confirmed a ninth homicide in the city. The man has been identified as 28-year-old Daniel Garcia.

Police tell us that Garcia is a Colorado Springs resident and died of a gunshot wound. At this time last year, there were 7 homicides.

Around 8:45, Monday morning a Whispering Pines Apartment worker discovered Garcia’s body inside a white SUV in the parking lot of the facility at 3030 E. Fountain Blvd. He called 9-1-1 to tell them about the gruesome discovery. Dispatch asked if he could do CPR on the man’s body; but the apartment worker said it was too late. Police said there are obvious signs of trauma to the body.

Police say that they do not have any suspects at this time, but are continuing their investigation.

Residents say they are shocked about something like this happening in their neighborhood. Barb Hansen said, “This particular complex has been incident free for a number of years. I’m kind of surprised this happened here.”

Barb husband, Clayton said the same thing about this being a rare incident of violence in their apartment neighborhood. However, he still wants his complex to have an active Neighborhood Watch again.
