CDOT Urging Drivers To Slow Down In Cone Zones

As construction workers head out to fix our state’s highways, CDOT is urging drivers to be careful.

According to CDOT, last year in Colorado, there were over 830 work zone crashes. Ten people died and 96 people were hurt.

“Every year doesn’t get easier,” said Leena Mather.

Mather was among those at the Remembrance Day ceremony in Pueblo on Tuesday. She lost her husband in 2006.

“A semi carrying decorative stones was going 65 mph and hit my husband and killed him. I was eight months pregnant with my son, my husband’s first child. He never got to see our son, except through ultrasound,” she said.

“The majority of accidents can be prevented by slowing down, eliminating distractions and driving responsibly,” said CDOT Region Transportation Director Tom Wrona.

Over the last 80 years, CDOT said 58 workers have been killed.
